One of the biggest reasons people hesitate to leave typical employment and start their own business is health insurance. This is a very valid and good reason to hesitate, but there are solutions.
Even very small businesses can qualify for health insurance. As little as two full-time employees can be enough to get health insurance for your business (this is another reason to be on your own company’s payroll as an S-Corp). Gusto (my preferred payroll service) makes it easy and affordable to offer health insurance to your employees (including yourself if you’re an S-Corp).
Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) can also be an option to help with healthcare costs for yourself (if you’re an S-Corp) and your employees.
Although it has its issues, the Healthcare exchange offers health insurance options. So at the end of the day, it’s still an option to make sure you have the coverage you need.
In addition, if you’re Christian, you can look into Christian Healthcare Ministries. This is a cost-sharing health insurance program.
So don’t let health insurance stop you from owning your own business or being the best opportunity you can be to your employees.
